This ensures that the three-way catalytic converter achieves maximum conversion efficiency for the three pollutants in the exhaust gas: hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOX), thereby maximizing the conversion and purification of emissions pollutants.
